Position Description

Attend and operate systems and associated auxiliary equipment related to the air quality control system, lime and limestone handling, water treatment, boiler fuel and fuel by-products, and ash collection and disposal.

Required Skills:

Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and reaching; and occasional sitting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, use of keyboard/computer, and lifting up to 50 pounds.  Equipment used include (but not limited to) hand, power, and pneumatic tools; skid steer loader; forklift; motor vehicles; ladders; jackhammers; manlifts; and power lifts.  Finger dexterity, the ability to speak, good hearing and color vision, and the ability to perform close work are required.  Must be able to analyze data/reports, conduct research, develop plans, present information to others, and implement recommendations.  Required to work under pressure when necessary.  Working conditions frequently include noise and electrical risks; and occasionally extreme heat and cold, dirt and dust, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and poor ventilation.  Occasionally may be required to work in confined areas and at heights.  Must be respirator qualified. 

Experience Required:

Must have a general knowledge of math and science; the ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions; and have the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with supervisors and co-workers at a level acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) certificate. The incumbent must have the knowledge of the production of electricity, the terminology used in a generating station, and a working knowledge of power plant systems at a level acquired through completion of a vocational power plant technology program from a recognized institution; or one year experience in a similar position in a coal-based generating station.  The incumbent must also successfully complete the DFS Operator qualification program within 90 days of implementation.  Additionally this position requires a good knowledge of computers.  The incumbent must have a valid driver’s license.
