The Director of New Student Orientation and Transition Programs at Creighton University will lead the strategic planning, development, and execution of comprehensive orientation and transition programs designed to support and integrate new students into the university community. This role is pivotal in creating a welcoming environment that aligns with our faith-based values and mission, ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds experience a smooth transition to academic and campus life. The Director will manage a team, collaborate with various university departments, and drive initiatives that enhance student engagement and success. The Director is also responsible for developing and managing initiatives that support students through key transitions, including their entry into college, changes in academic status, and other significant life events. This role focuses on creating and implementing programs that ease studentsâ?? transition process, enhance their engagement, and foster their academic and personal success. The Director will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive transition experience.

- Strategic Leadership and Planning: Develop and implement a strategic vision for all levels of Student Orientation and Transition programming that aligns with the universityâ??s mission and values, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students, these will include but not limited to; new students, transfer students, international students, sophomore and upper-level studentsâ?? transitions, first-generation, and commuter/off-campus students.
- Program Oversight: Lead the design, coordination, and evaluation of orientation and transition programs, including welcome events, workshops, and oversight of websites, resources, and information that address academic, social, and spiritual aspects of student life.
- Team Management: Supervise and mentor a team of professional staff, student leaders, and interns involved in orientation and transition programs, ensuring they are well-prepared and effectively contributing to program goals.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with academic departments, Mission and Ministry, Global Engagement Office, and Student Success to integrate resources and services into the orientation and transition experience, enhancing student support and engagement.
- Committee Assignment(s): First Gen Forward and New Student Orientation committee leadership.
- Resource Development: Oversee the creation and maintenance of orientation materials and resources, including handbooks, online content, and program guides, ensuring they are up-to-date and reflective of the universityâ??s faith-based values.
- Assessment and Improvement: Monitor and assess the effectiveness of orientation and transition programs through surveys, feedback, and performance metrics, using data to inform decisions and drive continuous improvements.
- Budget Oversight: Oversees budgets, maintaining fiscal responsibility with all accounts.
- Event Management: Plan and execute large-scale orientation events, including welcome ceremonies, workshops, and social activities that facilitate student connections and engagement with the university community.
- Student Support: Provide direct support and guidance to students during their transition, addressing any concerns and ensuring they have access to necessary resources and support systems.
Qualifications:
- A master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or a related field is required.
- Five to seven years of experience in student affairs is required.
- Experience with NODA is strongly preferred.
- Experience in student programming, advising student groups, and/or leadership development is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- An understanding of the value of holistic student development and of the motivations of students who participate in co-curricular learning experiences is required.
- An understanding of and the ability to apply theories of student development and learning outcomes are required.
- The ability to sustain communication with diverse groups, anticipate problems, reconcile conflicts, and maintain a strong philosophical base for student activities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication is required.
- An appreciation of the Ignatian tradition is required.
- Night and weekend commitments are required.
